1st Hatfield Peverel Scout Group is run by volunteers and we need parents and guardians and the wider community to support our Scouting group. Any help that you or your family can offer Scouting and our Scout group is welcomed, appreciated and valued. Help is particularly appreciated with practical skills, outdoor activities, as well as with transport, equipment and fundraising.
We are lucky enough to have a Scout Active Support Unit (SASU) which is made up of adult volunteers who provide valuable assistance to our Scout group including helping with meetings, camps, activities and events.
Scout Active Support allows people to give their time on a flexible basis, meaning they can be involved in Scouting without the full-time commitment of being a leader. If you would be interested in joining our Scout Active Support Unit please let us know.
There is a shortfall between the money we receive from subscriptions and the costs associated with running the group. As such we rely heavily on fundraising to help cover the remaining costs and to help ensure we continue to provide the best service to our young people.
We rely on local people to raise money for our Group by holding, or taking part in fundraising events. Without this fundraising, we would be unable to meet the costs involved in the everyday running of the group and would have to increase our subscriptions or we would have to reduce the service we offer.
Fundraising has taken place in the past by our young people (sponsored fun runs, drawing competitions), our section leaders (cake sales, quiz nights, family BBQs), our parents (marathon sponsorships, supporting our events), our local residents (paper collections, donations) and our local businesses (corporate sponsorship). We welcome suggestions for new fundraising ideas and appreciate any help we are offered.
In order to help raise funds, we carry out a monthly paper collection in Hatfield Peverel. We ask residents to leave out newspapers and cardboard etc on their property boundary by 9am on the first Saturday of each month. Our team of dedicated volunteers then collect the unwanted paper and take it to our recycling container located at the Scout Headquarters car park. The Scout group receives a payment for all paper collected and this contributes greatly towards our fundraising efforts and is a prime factor in keeping subscription costs down. We ask you to support this by putting all your paper out for collection - or if you feel that you can help a bit more by volunteering to collect, please contact one of the leaders who will pass your name on to the co-ordinator.
We are a member of Easy Fundraising, which means that you can raise money for the Group at no cost to yourself.
If you buy things online then many retailers will donate a percentage of what you spend to us providing you access their online store via easyfundraising.org.uk. Essentially the retailer gives the money they would normally spend on online advertising to the group instead. There is even a range of widgets and tools to help remind you to shop via their site.

Gift Aid is a simple government initiative, which allows our Scout group to increase the value of your donations at no extra cost to you. For every pound given we can get an extra 25p from HM Revenue and Customs, helping your donations go further. This will really help the group's finances and help keep costs down for our parents.
